Is Roblox just for kids? The 2026 age numbers

- Player Promo

Short answer: no. On Roblox's own age-check data from January 2026, 35% of players are under 13, 38% are 13-17 and 27% are 18 or over. Two thirds of the platform is a teenager or an adult - and adults are the fastest-growing group.

Why we can trust the numbers now

Until recently, Roblox age data was based on what players typed in when they signed up. That changed when Roblox made age checks mandatory for chat worldwide from January 2026, using facial age estimation or ID. Roblox describes its age-checked figures as estimates from an evolving method, and only part of the base had been checked when it first published them - but it's the best view of the audience anyone has had.

For brands, that matters twice over: you get a clearer picture of who's playing, and you're reaching them through a channel where ages are actually checked.

The adult audience is growing fastest

  • In the US, the 18-34 audience is growing by more than 50% a year - more than double the rate of under-18s, according to Roblox.
  • That group spends around 50% more per head than under-18s.
  • From June 2026, Roblox pays developers a 42% higher cash-out rate on qualifying spend from age-checked US adults in eligible games - a signal of how much Roblox wants older players.
  • Roblox's own estimate is that it reaches under 10% of US adults aged 18-34 every day, so there's a lot of headroom.

And the youngest players have their own space

In June 2026 Roblox launched Roblox Kids (ages 5-8) and Roblox Select (ages 9-15) globally, with curated content and age-appropriate defaults. That makes the platform easier for parents to trust - and gives brands aimed at families a clearer, safer lane.

What this means for brands

  • Sports clubs can reach the age when fans pick a club for life - and their parents, who increasingly play too.
  • Film and TV studios with teen- or adult-skewing IP no longer need to rule Roblox out.
  • Consumer brands get a regulated, age-checked channel at a time when social media routes to under-16s are closing in several countries.

The same studio can build for both ends of the audience. What changes is the content tier, not the platform.

Why under-16s are moving to games

Australia's social media ban for under-16s came into force in December 2025 and the UK is moving the same way. Australia's experience so far suggests usage doesn't stop - it moves into messaging and games. None of the major ban regimes so far include Roblox in scope.
